Sprinting home with DB

It was that time of the year. The time for my yearly holiday back home. I was looking forward to three weeks of pure bliss, two of which I will be spending at my home enjoying the company of my parents, brother and meeting my lovely friends. The middle week I will be going to back to my mother country where I will hopefully enjoy a week full of temples, backwaters, beach, yummy food, hindi/mallu/tamil movies and much more. To say I was excited would be an understatement. I was jittery and anxious about packing the right stuff, not leaving anything important behind and definitely looking forward to my ICE ride in a Sprinter from Berlin to my city.

I was lucky to be able to book a ticket in first class, which definitely had its perks. The Sprinter is super fast, reaching Frankfurt from Berlin in about 4hours 20 minutes and has almost all the luxuries of flying and similar service. There is a meal included which even though doesn’t compare to Lufthansa standard, but is definitely tasty enough to fill the hungry stomach. A slight disadvantage is if one is a vegetarian. Then the options are limited. There is a possibility to skip the complete meal and only go for a dessert and a roll or order something from the board restaurant. A salad ordered by a passenger sitting nearby seemed yummy. Unfortunately it came with a price as opposed to the non-vegetarian lamb with couscous, beans, cheese-filled paprika, roll with butter and vanilla pudding with cream. Free drinks were served twice, first time just before the meal and the second time just after. Options are Coffee, Black or Green Tee, Orange juice and water with varying degree of CO2. The only disadvantage of the free meal is that it is a bit cold. Tip: Order a hot beverage with your meal. This will definitely take the taste of your meal a notch higher. Unfortunately I was a bit late in identifying this but you, dear readers, should not miss the opportunity, were you to travel in similar fashion.

Traveling in first class also means traveling with white-collar gents and ladies. It is difficult to strike a conversation, as everyone is busy with their own laptops, cell phones, and other utility gadgets.

My fellow commuters

Free newspaper might keep you busy for half an hour but after that one can either spend the time sleeping, reading something one has got along, enjoying the beautiful scenery outside or writing a blog post like I’m doing :D

Arriving at my destination I was surprised to find my whole family waiting for me at the railway station.Even my lil brother was there...isn't that an "awwww -moment".

The vacations could finally begin.... :D
P.S.: This Post was written at the starting of my vacation on 23rd Aug 2012. Due to lack of time this is being posted a little late
