Not abandoned...yet

Hey Guys,

sorry for not updating the blog in such a long time. I had shifted bases from No Man's Land to... well a new place which is not anything like No Man's Land. The city where I live is great. As you know good and bad always come together. So even though there are quite a few perks here, there are also a few things which are not so great.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I'm still around and have not abadoned this baby yet. Here is hoping that I can update more often now.

Till then....Carpe Diam ;)

Countdown to Christmas

Advent, Advent, ein Lichtlein brennt...

Advent, Advent,
ein
Lichtlein brennt!
Erst eins, dann zwei, dann drei, dann vier,
dann
steht das Christkind vor der Tür!

It's the first of December and I'm really excited. I'll driving back home on 22nd Dec to my family and friends. For a two week vacation. For Christmas and for New Year's. Aaaaawwweeesooommmeee!!!!

Yesterday evening it started snowing here in East Germany. Everything is covered in powdery white snow and looks so serene and beautiful. Unfortunately it will also mean scratching the car to rid it of snow on Monday morning before work and waking up 10 minutes earlier to do that. Hmm...every coin has two sides, right?

I'm looking forward to this Christmas festival season. I still thinking about what presents to get, not only for friends and family but also for me. Everyone is allowed to splurge once in while, isn't it?

I'm looking forward to spend time with my family drinking hot chocolate, watching movies, baking, cooking and eating mom's food. Everything I missed doing while staying away from home and not being able to do.

So here's wishing everyone a happy first Advent. What are your plans for this holiday season?

Worst Week Ever

This has probably been my worst week ever. First I sprained my ankle. Meaning I can't drive, I can't walk properly, I cant stand on my feet for more than five minutes coz that hurts my feet. I'm having trouble sleeping coz I can't place my legs the way I would like to coz that too hurts my leg *surprise surprise*. But somehow I was managing. I still went to work coz I had too much on my plate and want to finish as soon as possible so that I can leave "No Man's Land". I asked one of my colleagues to pick me up and drop me back home  It would get better soon I said to myself.

Then my boss informed me, he will be visiting my workplace to asses my work progress. Sort of like a test. I am seriously nervous about that. I haven't been to visit the contract site for quite a few weeks as I had a lot of work to do in control room. He will probably have a lot of questions about the site and that has been giving been jitters, panic attacks and sleepless nights (and coz of the leg-pain too) for the past week. And how am I supposed to show him around with my injured leg?

Then I had an infection in my ears which made my hearing abilities pretty questionable. It wasn't anything serious, or at least I think it isn't. I haven't had the time to go to doctor for another check-up.

If you though that was the last straw...no there is more...

Worst of all is that today my mobile slipped out of my hand and my screen is broken. I'm still able to receive calls and call people for now...unfortunately I don't know for how long this will work. And I don't know if my alarm will work. How am I supposed to wake up in the morning without that? I can't buy myself a new one coz the nearest electronic shop is like 40 kms away and I can't drive, remember?

I know it might sound shallow, but I can live with arm, leg and heart break...but ask me to live without technology (car, mobile, Internet) and I'll go bonkers.

How will I survive in "No Man's Land" till end of 2012 without my trusted phone???? *sob sob*

Yes, Murphy loves me...

P.S. Because of all these developments I'm putting "Adventures with Cooking" on hold. May be I'll come back to it, if things get better. Knowing my luck, the chances seem pretty grim :(

Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus

You've probably heard this quote a million times and thought this true too. The war between men & women has been going on for as long as anybody can remember. This post will not concentrate on everything this war compromises of, but will only concentrate on the aspect "color".

Working in a professional field where men dominate, I often have discussions about color-blindness with men and how they cannot differentiate between a soft baby-pink and a clearly bright shocking pink. No, I don't work in any fashion or artistic industry. I programme operating interfaces and I do think color schemes are important for customers who have to stare at a monitor for the better part of their day.

I remember conversations with my professors in college as well as school who refused to do experiments with color indicators declaring it difficult to argue with women about different shades of the same colors :D.

So when I received a mail from one of my colleagues the other day about color schemes, I thought I'd share it with you dear readers. Have a look and decide for yourself, how would you define different color-schemes?  :D

Lessons in Life

Good morning all you lovely people out there :)

It is a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning here in middle of nowhere and I'm sitting on my kitchen table just beside my window and sipping my morning cup of hot chocolate. Hm mm.....

Good Morning

Even though everything might seem perfect, it is not. I'm having a horrible week at work with lots to do and the deadline approaching on Monday. So to make my week even worse than it already was, I have to work today and probably on Sunday too. Life sucks sometimes :(

So as soon as I finish my cup, I'll leave for work. But before that I'd like to share a recent mail I received with you guys about some lessons in life. Somehow these words brought a smile to my face and I hope you enjoy them too. Wising everyone a nice weekend :)

 Lessons in Life

1)      90% of the problems, are due to the tone of voice.
It is not what you say,
but how you say, that creates the problem.

2)      Marriage is like a flute..
It may have several holes and emptiness.
The same holes and emptiness gives beautiful and melodious tunes, if you know how!

3)      End is not the end.
In fact E.N.D. is "Effort Never Dies" and if you get NO  in answer,
remember N.O. is "Next Opportunity".
So always be positive in life !!!

4)      The caliber of a person is not how well he prepares for everything to go right,
But, how he stands up and moves on after everything has gone wrong.

5)      Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble,
but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

Note: These lessons in life and the "Good Morning" Pic are not from me. Since I don't know who the original author is, I'd like to credit the Anonymous person here.
